Quadrant, a leader in engineered plastics located in Wytheville, VA has dealt with leaks throughout their facility for years. Over 100,000 square feet of EPDM roof have been patched and repaired year after year. This prompted Allen Ramsey, maintenance engineer for Quadrant, to contact Acrylife, Inc. to look at their roof and propose a solution.

The roof was a metal deck with a gravel surface built-up (BUR) and a recovery roof with insulation board and 45 mil EPDM. The EPDM roof was so saturated that you could see footprints when walking over the roof. Acrylife surveyed the roof, took core samples, asbestos samples and recommended removal of equipment that was obsolete. After a complete investigation, Acrylife recommended that the roof be removed and a new roof be installed using Versico 60 mil PVC and the V2T Vent Technology.

Because this was a complete tear off to the metal deck, Acrylife recommended using Carlisle’s new VapAir vapor barrier over the deck. This is a new reinforced peel and stick butyl backed sheet that directly adheres to the deck and serves as an excellent vapor barrier and secondary roof.

With recommendation in hand, Quadrant contracted CFE, Inc., one of the top roofing companies in the US to begin Phase I of the removal and replacement of the existing roof. CFE began with the removal of the obsolete equipment and replacement of deteriorated decking. Installation of the VapAir over the decking provided an easy working surface for the new isocyanurate insulation loose laid with a loose laid ½” Dens Deck cover board. All that was left was the installation of the V2T Vent Technology.

Over 80,000 square feet of the roof have been removed and replaced. The project is a great success for Allen Ramsey and Quadrant. Allen is pleased to no longer have to put up tarps every time it rains. Mr. Ramsey understands life cycle cost and realizes that V2T offers not only a top quality, less costly roof, but also minimizes the cost of replacement. All he will have to do is cut it loose from the perimeter and put on a new membrane. With no fasteners in the field or glues to contaminate the membrane or insulation; V2T technology is easily recyclable.

From start to finish, Quadrant’s roof went from a headache to a showcase for new technology in roofing.

With Phase I complete, Quadrant was pleased with the results and is looking forward to the completion of Phase II utilizing V2T Technology. Less labor, material and equipment, a superb green technology and lower life cycle cost makes V2T Technology a great choice.
