The Crowne Plaza Executive Park Hotel is located at 5700 Westpark Drive in Charlotte, North Carolina and offers 297 rooms/suites with 5 concierge levels. Crowne Plaza discovered a few leaks in their existing roof system which resulted in closed hotel rooms and a loss of revenue. Since Crowne Plaza teamed with Radco on past projects, the facility reached out to Radco again when looking for a quick and cost-effective solution.

The Challenge:
In an effort to accommodate guests staying at the hotel during the project, Radco needed a roofing solution that would be:

  • installed quickly and quietly
  • safe for workers, hotel staff, and patrons alike
  • durable and cost-effective

The Solution:
Radco selected the V2T Roof System and it was installed as an 8,200 sq. ft. layover on the existing roof with insulation board and 80 Mil Carlisle TPO. It was a safe, cost-effective option that minimized noise disturbance and was much faster to install than the traditional adhered membrane.

The selected system uses less material making the loading time and installation faster than traditional methods. For instance, to load all the materials onto the roof to install a traditional roof system would have required carrying approx. 20-5 gallon buckets (each weighing 60 pounds) on the hotel freight elevator to the roof; the V2T roof system only required 6 V2T vents (each weighing 2 pounds). This saved Radco installation time, protected the roofers from unnecessary labor, and saved Crowne Plaza from paying for work that was easily avoidable.

The environmentally-friendly V2T Roof System eliminates the need for adhesives and screws by leveraging the power of the wind. Instead of fastening the insulation onto the deck, which also creates a lot of noise and disturbs guests, Radco loosely laid the membrane into the vented system. Traditional roof systems also use adhesives that emit fumes which can cause discomfort to those in close proximity, and are ultimately not good for people or the planet.

In the End:
The final inspection was conducted by the manufacturer, Carlisle, who happily approved a 15 year material and workmanship warranty. Radco will also follow up yearly and provide a material and workmanship warranty for the first 2 years. The job was completed in 2 weeks instead of the 4-6 weeks a traditionally adhered membrane project would have lasted, and the hotel received no guest complaints about the project.

We consider this project a win for all!

About V2T Roof System:
The V2T Roof System utilizes a patented vent system that leverages the power of the wind to hold down the roof membrane – the harder the wind blows, the tighter the grip. This allows for a significant reduction in other materials such as adhesive, screws, and ballast. V2T has been tested at a NASA facility at the Langley Air Force Base, the Underwriters Laboratory (UL Test), among others, and has been tested to withstand wind speeds of up to 150 MPH. The V2T Roof System is backed by the same 20 year warranties as other top tier commercial roofs, easier to install, easier to maintain, more environmentally friendly, and has a lower cost of ownership. With millions of square feet already installed from the tropics to the coldest areas of the United States, the V2T Roof System is the obvious choice for low-slope roofs.
